About this event

The Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) is offering a series of workshops during the week before the Spring 2024 term to help you prepare for your studies. Whether you are starting your first college program or returning to your final semester, any Algonquin student with a disability can take advantage of these learning opportunities. Each webinar will touch on a different topic, with a focus on learning about ways to enhance your academic skills.

Each webinar will take place using the Zoom video conferencing platform. You will be provided with information about how to use Zoom as well as the required link before each event. Note that if you choose to use turn on your webcam during the Zoom session, your video will be visible to other workshop participants.

In this session, you will understand what learning strategies are and receive tips on how to be a more effective learner in the college environment. The focus will be on time management, but other strategies related to studying, prioritizing, and connecting with others will also be shared.

Join one of CAL’s Assistive Technologists to find out about tools that can help you succeed. This session will introduce tools to help you take notes during online lectures, to stay focused while reading, to get your ideas down in writing and more!

What is Taking Notes: Tips and Tools?

Attend this workshop to learn more about different note-taking systems and learn which one best fits your courses and your own learning style. You will also be introduced to technologies that can support you in taking effective notes.

What is Habit Hacks for College and Beyond!?

Learn about the basics of habit formation, including tips for making new habits easy and manageable by using the Four Laws of Behaviour Change. Discover how these laws can be used to both build positive habits and eliminate negative ones. Who knows? Maybe this habit will change your academic life.

What is Stress Management?

Balancing your course load and personal commitments can be a stressful experience for many college students. In this workshop, students will learn more about recognizing signs of stress and creating strategies to help manage stress in the academic environment.

What is Time Management – Rock the Clock?

This workshop will introduce you to some simple techniques to plan your time more effectively. A Learning Strategist will teach you how to build an “Ideal Weekly Schedule” and a “Semester Plan,” and you will also learn about task lists and prioritization.
